Day 27: Total belief

It was a no-bunny day today, but that didn’t stop Luna from checking every spot she’s ever seen a bunny in the last 18 months juuuuuuust in case. Sometimes I think she manifests bunnies from her sheer belief that bunnies will appear. Even when they don’t she doesn’t lose hope. She is a bunny-finder, period. If the sun sets on a no-bunny day, she’s not stressed about it because she’s sure her next bunny is just around the corner and all she needs to find it is one more walk.

We all have something that’s our “bunny,” but we may not have Luna’s certainty when the day ends without a bunny in sight. What if you could have that level of certainty in who you are and what you’re here for? If that sounds exciting, we should talk.

Day 26: Life the way you want it

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but just because you’re not doing it the way someone else thinks you should doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It doesn’t mean you’re failing. There are lots of right ways to have a great life. You get to pick the ones that work for you, because it’s YOUR life. Not your mom’s. Not your brother’s. Not your best friend from high school’s. Not your partner’s. Not your grandpa’s. Not your judgmental Facebook friend’s. YOURS. And you don’t have to apologize for it.

Day 25: A new perspective

Actual conversation with a client today…

Client: And I just feel like I’m stupid.

Me: So then what happens?

C: Then I do a ridiculous amount of research and stay up all night working to write this thing and go totally overboard to prove myself.

Me: Okay, but are you proving yourself or are you punishing yourself?

C: …Oh shit. [big breath out] I’m punishing myself. For being stupid. Which I don’t need to do. Because I’m not stupid. So why am I doing this? Oh my God. You need to make one of those “oh shit moment” posts about this.

Day 24: You run the show

Today I got REALLY mad about something that I absolutely cannot control or change by being mad. I really wanted to lose my shit, but it would have done nothing but raise my blood pressure and ruin my day. I’m still mad, but I’m also really proud of myself for running the mad instead of letting the mad run me.

I’ve always been able to choose my thoughts, but it took me a good couple of years to learn that and a few more to believe it—and then a few more still to actually do it. Day 23: Allowed to breathe

Mid-weekend reminder:

🧺

 No one will die from having to get dressed out of the laundry basket for a few days.

🥣

 You’re not a failure because you have a sinkload of dirty dishes.

🧹

 Your house will not cave in and your children / pets / houseplants be immediately confiscated if the floor doesn’t get swept immediately.

If you can use what’s left of your weekend to connect instead of to get caught up on your to-do list, do it. You’re allowed. You’re more than allowed to set aside the stuff that really doesn’t matter in favor of the stuff that really does. It’ll be there later—this is not a crisis. But totally burning yourself out would be.

Day 22: Support

No matter what I do, this cat wants to sleep on top of my knees. I have no idea why this is her favorite spot, but the moment I get in bed she’s here and ready to zonk out perched on my kneecaps. I can’t stand it. It’s uncomfortable and I don’t like to be touched while I’m trying to fall asleep. But for whatever reason it’s her happy place so I tolerate it as long as I can and then I roll over and she settles behind my legs instead of on them.

We don’t always have to understand why the ones we love need a certain thing. THEY may not even understand why they need it. All we have to do is believe them when they tell us, and support them how we can.
